This community was shocked and saddened Sunday when word reached here that Lyle Poesch of the United States Navy had passed away suddenly at Urbana, Ill., following only a few hours of illness. Seaman Poesch a few weeks ago had completed his boot training at Farragut, Idaho, and after his leave which he spent here, he was sent to Urbana to the Naval training course in diesel engines.

He was a member of Company A, Section 3 at the school and the remains were accompanied here Tuesday morning by a classmate, Storekeeper Second Class Wm. Roltsch, of Detroit, Mich.

Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at the Schutte Funeral Home in this city at 1:30 o'clock and at 2:30 o'clock in the Presbyterian church in Waukon. The Rev. A.H. Grossheim of Waukon will conduct both services. Arthur F. Brandt, Post No. 518, American Legion, of this city will supply an honor guard at the service here and Ralph D. Waters Post, American Legion of Waukon, will conduct the commitment ceremony at the cemetery in Waukon where interment will be made.

Mayor C.F. Reincke informs us that in order to pay respect to this man who has made the supreme sacrifice while in the service of his country, all Postville business places will be closed Thursday afternoon from 1:30 to 2:00 o'clock while services are being held here.

Lyle Poesch was born in Postville on April 2, 1918, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Poesch. He attended the Postville schools and graduated from high school with the class of 1935. After leaving school Lyle worked as a mechanic until he was called in the selective service, being inducted into the Navy in September of last year.

On November 19, 1941, he was married to Miss Ruth Darlene Echard of Waukon and the couple made their home in Postville. He is survived by his wife, his parents, a brother, Sergeant Leslie Poesch in the U.S. Army, and a sister, Jessie, who is a student at Antioch College, Yellow Springs, Ohio. The family through the Red Cross contacted Sergeant Poesch at an eastern embarkation point and he arrived here today to be present at the funeral services.
