John G. Lambert, owner of the Marengo hotel, died at the hostlery on Thursday afternoon, December 30, following a two weeks illness due to advancing age. Deceased was born in Canada, December 5, 1846, the son of Gersham and Nancy Lambert. Previous to moving to Marengo he lived for forty years in Postville, Iowa, where he engaged in farming. He bought the Marengo hotel December 9, 1925, and since that time it has been operated by his nephew, John L. James, wife and son. He is survived by one brother, S. E. Lambert of this city and one nephew John James, also of this city. Funeral services were conducted from the Presbyterian church Sunday afternoon, Rev. W. A. Geske, pastor, officiating.--Marengo Republican.

Previous to leaving here a few years ago the Lambert family resided north of the Uhl farm in Post township.
