Wilmer D. Monserud, 88, of Waterville, IA, died Friday, September 7, 2012 at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon, IA. Funeral services will be held Monday, September 10th, at 11:00 AM at Waterville Lutheran Church in Waterville, with Greg Hamm officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery, Waterville. Friends may call from 3:00 - 6:00 PM Sunday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.
Wilmer Delmar Monserud was born on May 3, 1924 on the rural Waterville, IA, farm of his parents, Walter Herman and Dora (Olson) Monserud. He was baptized and confirmed at Waterville Lutheran Church. Wilmer attended Waterville Elementary School and graduated from Waterville High School in 1942. After high school he farmed with his parents. On April 20, 1952 he married Norma Winger in Des Moines, IA. They farmed together along with his brothers Odin and Norman in Paint Creek Township where they raised dairy cows, hogs and crops. Wilmer later farmed with his daughter, Della and two of his grandsons, Doug and Nick Wild raising beef cows. He was a life-long member of Waterville Lutheran Church, was a member of Allamakee County Farm Bureau and a past member of the Lions Club in Waukon. Wilmer enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He also enjoyed attending auctions.
Survivors include a daughter, Louise (Randy) Wild of Lansing, IA; 5 grandchildren, Laurie, Doug, Nick and Brooke Wild and Abbie Fish; a son-in-law, David Fish Sr., of Waterville, 3 step-grandchildren, David Jr., and Dale Fish, and Christy Stone; 7 step-great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Leona Troester of Monona, IA. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife Norma who died in 1987; a daughter, Della Fish; a granddaughter, Cathy Fish; 2 brothers, Norman and Odin Monserud; and a sister, Dorothy Olson.
