Fred A. Baltz, 56, Former Business Man, Passes Away Monday.

Fred A. Baltz, Former Postville business man and a veteran of World War I, passed away Monday morning at his home in this city following an illness of two years. He was 56 years old.

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon, first at the home and at 2:00 at St. Paul's Lutheran church of which he was a member. The Rev. Frederick R. Ludwig will officiate and interment will be in Postville cemetery.

Mr. Baltz was born at Postville February 8, 1890, as the son of Fred and Minnie Zachow Baltz. He grew to manhood here and attended the district school near the family home. He went with his parents to Castalia in 1911 and it was there that he entered the service of his country during World War I.

He served in Europe and while in the army of occupation in Germany he was with Co. C, Ammunition Train, 2nd Division, and at the time of his discharge was a bugler.

Mr. Baltz was married to Miss Cynthia Everman of Postville on September 30, 1919, and to this union three daughters were born, Delores, who passed away March 14, 1936; Doris of Muscatine, and Charlene of Iowa City.

Surviving him, in addition to his wife and two daughters, are the following brothers and sisters: Carl Baltz of Hot Springs, Ark.; Mrs. Anna Gentz of Luana; William H. Baltz of Postville; Lena Johnson of Minneapolis, Minn.; Ernest Baltz of Santa Ana, Calif.; Mrs. Bertha Buhlmann and Mrs. Louise Klaus of Waterloo. His parents , a brother, August, and a sister, Minnie, preceded him in death.

Mr. Baltz operated a cafe at Castalia until 1937 when the family moved to Postville and he entered a like business here which he sold in April of this year.

He was a charter member of the V.F.W. Post in Waukon and held membership in the American Legion Post in this city.
