Fred Miene, 68, Passes On Monday; Funeral Is Thursday, Was Born In Germany, Resided in Community Since Coming To U. S.

Fred Miene, a respected citizen of this community for many years, passed away at the hospital in Rochester, Minn., Monday evening at 7
o'clock, He had been ill for only two weeks, having been taken to the Rochester hospital a week ago.

Funeral services will be held here Thursday afternoon at two o'clock at the family home and at 2:30 o'clock at St. Paul's Lutheran church, with the Rev. Frederick R. Ludwig officiating. Interment will be in the Postville cemetery.

Mr. Miene was born in Hanover, Germany, on July 18, 1874, the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Miene. He came to this country with a sister when he was 18 years old, his parents following him here later. His entire lifetime was spent in Clayton and Allamakee counties. He followed farming for a number of years in Clayton county and since coming to Postville twelve years ago he had been engaged in the nursery business. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran church.

Mr. Miene was married to Miss Marie Reinhardt on February 6, 1897, by the Rev. Seifert and the couple then went to live in Grand Meadow township. Mrs Miene and the following children survive: Mrs. Wm. (Alma) Kuehling of Longmont, Colo.; Otto Miene of Postville; Mrs Walter (Lucy) Winter of Eldorado; Fred C. Miene of Postville, and Mrs. Walter (Florence) Everman of Castalia. Also surviving are eleven grandchildren and one brother, George Miene, of McGregor.
