Goldie Rocksvold of Waukon died August 12, 2012. She was 101 years old. Graveside services were held August 19 at the English Bench Cemetery in rural Dorchester.

Goldie Lucille (Sires) Rocksvold was born September 15, 1910 on her parents farm in rural Dorchester, the daughter of Roy and Lena (Hahn) Sires. She attended Van Cooley school where her sister, Silvia, taught. She married Francis (Dutch) McKee and they adopted a son, Thomas. They were later divorced. She then met and married Dervin Rocksvold.

She lived in many towns - New Albin, Waukon, Decorah and Cedar Falls - and then they bought a little tavern in Clayton and made it into a supper club, Rocky’s Riverview Resort. Then they moved to Prairie Du Chien, WI and then to Waukon.

She spent the last six years in the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon where she was loved by all the employees and had many friends too. Her favorite pastime was playing cards.

Survivors are her sister, Beryl Pokorny of Lake Ozarks, MO; her sisters-in-law Silvia Sires of Waukon and Marcie Sires of Waverly; and many nieces and nephews. She had three grandchildren, Erik Rocksvold, Tiffany (John) Petermeier of Norwalk, and Annie (Tony) VanDerZwaag of Boyden; five great-grandchildren, Jakob and Daniel Petermeier and Cody, Laura, and Jack VanDerZwaag. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dervin; her son, Thomas; four sisters, Silvia May, Opal Britain, Pearl Ehde and Emerald Grahlman; and three brothers, James, Sardius and Roy Sires.
