Services Held For George Brainard

Services were held Monday, October 21 at 1:30 p.m. at the Community Presbyterian Church, Postville, for George R. Brainard, who died Saturday, October 19 at the Good Samaritan Center in Postville. The Rev. Dick F. Harberts officiated. Casket bearers were his seven sons. Burial was in the Minert Cemetery.

George R. was born December 18, 1893 in Allamakee County, the son of Edgar and Barbara McWilliams Brainard. He attended the Evergreen rural school near Postville and graduated from the 8th grade.

He was united in marriage to Eva Smith on September 25, 1915 at New Hampton, Iowa. They lived on the same farm northeast of Postville for 57 years. Ten children were born to this union and Russell Lee Enyart also made his home with them.

Mr. Brainard attended the Bethlehem Evangelical United Brethern Church in Post Township in his early years. He was baptized on September 25, 1959, made Confession of Faith on October 4, 1959 and became a member of the Community Presbyterian Church, Postville.

Mr. Brainard was preceded in death by his wife, his parents and 4 sisters: Mrs. Mae Simons, Mrs. Millie Vickery and Arvilla Harris and Mrs. Nellie Brainard; also 2 brothers, Ralph and James and Russell Lee Enyart.

Survivors include his 10 children, Dale, Keith, John, Mrs. Leslie (Bernice ) Poesch and Mrs. Leland (Janice) Walby, all of Postville; Lee of Sedalia, Missouri; Ray of Marion; Mrs. Kenneth (Barbara) Schori of Chicago, Illinois; Gene and Edgar of Waukon. Also, a sister Mrs. Genevieve Petrie of Chicago. There are 42 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and many other relatives.
