Services Held For Mrs. George Brainard
Funeral services for Mrs. George (Eva) Brainard were held in the Community Presbyterian Church, Postville, Saturday, February 9 at 1:30 p.m., the Rev. Dick F. Harberts officiating. Casket bearers were her seven sons. Interment was in the Minert Cemetery, northeast of Postville.
Eva Smith Brainard, daughter of Louis B. and Mary (Swenson) Smith, was born August 27, 1895 at home in Allamakee County. She attended the Hardin School and furthered her education with summer school at Upper Iowa College. She taught rural schools at West Grove and Evergreen.
On September 25, 1915, she was united in marriage to George R. Brainard. They lived on the same farm northeast of Postville for 57 years. Ten children were born to this union. Russell Lee Enyart also made his home with them.
She made Confession of Faith in Christ and became a member of the Hardin Methodist Church, transferring to the Community Presbyterian Church, Postville, January 6, 1952. She was an active member of the United Presbyterian Women and a charter member of the Post-Franklin Study Club.
Preceding her in death were her parents and Russell Lee Enyart.
Survivors include her husband, George and her 10 children: Dale, Keith, John, Mrs. Leslie (Bernice ) Poesch and Mrs. Leland (Janice) Walby, all of Postville; Lee of Sedalia, Missouri; Ray of Marion; Mrs. Kenneth (Barbara) Schori of Chicago, Illinois; Gene and Edgar of Waukon. Also, two sisters: Mrs. Abbie Dunning of Luana and Mrs. Ethel Watts of Des Moines, Washington. There are 42 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren.
