Postville Herald, Postville, Iowa, Thursday, May 11, 1922.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------.

Amy Elizabeth Burdick was born in Jogus county, Ohio, July 11, 1841, and died at her home in Postville, Iowa, May 4, 1922, following a protracted period of failing health during which she was given every comfort and care possible by her son A. S. Burdick and wife.

She was the daughter of S. L. and Mary J. Halstead. With her parents she moved to Janesville, Wis., in 1846. In 1858 they moved to Howard county, Iowa, where in January 1860 the subject of this sketch was united in marriage with W. N. Burdick. They resided in New Oregon, where her husband conducted a store and was postmaster. In 1867 he moved the postoffice to Cresco and became the first postmaster. They resided in Decorah about two years before coming to Postville in 18?? (last two digits unreadable).

Two brothers and two sisters preceded her in death. Of her immediate family one brother, S. I. Halstead, is living at an advanced age in Salem, Oregon.

She was the mother of five children, two of whom died in infancy and one in young manhood; two remain, E. E. Burdick of Minneapolis and A. S. Burdick of this city. There are five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The above is in brief the life story of a woman who has been a resident of this city for almost a half century, where she is remembered as a faithful wife, kind mother, a true friend and good neighbor. For many years she was beset with physical afflictions which she bore with wonderful fortitude, until in the fulness of years she was called to her reward.

The funeral was held from the home last Saturday afternoon, conducted by Rev. J. A. Saathoff of the Community church. Interment in Postville cemetery.
