Funeral Services Held For Mrs. Blumhagen

Funeral services are being held today, Wednesday, from the Schutte Funeral Home at 1 p.m. to St. Paul's Lutheran Church at 1:30 for Mrs. Anna Blumhagen, 76, who passed away Sunday at Postville Hospital following a period of declining health.

Rev. Frederick R. Ludwig, pastor of St. Paul's, will be in charge of the rites. Burial will be in Postville cemetery.

Anna Wilhelmine Helmine Louise Schutte Blumhagen, daughter of Helmuth and Helmine "Minnie" (Konow) Schutte, was born February 8, 1876 at Clayton Center, Clayton county Iowa, and departed this life on December 28, 1952, after a period of declining health, at Postville, aged 76 years, 10 months and 20 days.

Mrs. Blumhagen was received into active membership in the Lutheran Church in the St. Paul's congregation of Postville on April 14, 1889.

Mrs. Blumhagen was united in marriage with Henry K. W. Blumhagen of Bloomfield township, Winneshiek county, on May 21, 1896, at Postville. To this union 11 children were born, of whom 8 survive the passing of their mother.

Mrs. Blumhagen spent the first 2 years of her life at Clayton Center. She then accompanied her parents to the Postville community, where the family home was established. She spent the remainder of her earthly life as a resident of the Postville community.

Following their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Blumhagen established their home on a farm northeast of Castalia and this continued to be her home until retirement to Postville in 1937. For the last 15 years she has made her home in Postville.

Left to mourn her passing are 8 children: Carl Blumhagen of Postville; Minnie (William) Bugenhagen of Luana; Arno Blumhagen of Monona; Lloyd Blumhagen, Henry Blumhagen, Elsie (Harold) Meyer, Alvin Blumhagen and Elda Blumhagen, all of Castalia; 18 grandchildren; 2 brothers: Louis and Charles Schutte, both of Postville; 2 sisters: Mina (George) Atwater and Susan (E. L.) Corson, both of San Gabriel, California; as well as other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Blumhagen was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; 3 children: Louis, George and Mabel; 2 brothers: Fred and August Schutte; and 2 sisters: Elizabeth (Charles) Weihe and one sister in infancy.
