Wm. C. Schroder Is Called To His Reward.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------.

This community was shocked and the home of Wm. C. Shroeder was cast into deepest gloom at a little before the supper hour last Thursday by the death of the beloved husband and father, whose demise followed a period of failing health with which he had been beset the past several months.

William Ludwig Christian Schroeder, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. H. Schroeder, was born in Allamakee county, Iowa, October 1, 1886. On December 12, 1886, he was received into the household of God through the sacrament of baptisim administered in St. Paul's Lutheran church. On April 8, 1900, he renewed his baptismal covenant in the rite of confirmation and became a communicant member of the church.

On February 9, 1911, he was united in marriage with Miss Clara L. Wegner of near Postville. They first established their home in Postville and later removed to the farm southwest of this city where they have resided continuously since. Their union was blessed with 2 children, Francis aged 15, and Charlton aged 12, who with the wife and mother survive to mourn the loss of a husband and father who was dutiful, loving and kind.

His mother preceded him in death. Aside from those above mentioned he is survived by his father, Wm H. Schroeder, his stepmother, two brothers, Louis F. and Edward F., both of this city, and three sisters, Mrs. Fred Schara, and Mrs. John Kohrs of near Postville, and Mrs. Thomas Monroe, of Castalia, and many other relatives.

Mr. Schroeder was known to all as an honest, upright, and industrious man and one of the most successful farmers hereabouts. He was genial, courtious and kind, a man who made a friend of those with whom he came in contact. He was a good citizen, loving and dutiful husband and father, whose untimely passing will be mourned by all who knew him.

The funeral was held from St. Paul's Lutheran church on Monday afternoon at two o'clock, Rev. E. T. Finck officiating, and the large assemblage of friends who came to pay a tribute of respect to his memory, as well as the many beautiful floral offerings most fittingly attested the high place he held in the hearts of those among whom he had lived during the all to brief span of life that had been alloted to him.

Fraternally Mr. Schroeder was affiliated with Postville Lodge No. 707, I.O.O.F., and Post Rebekah Lodge No. 48, in both of which he took an active interest.

The following out-of-town relatives were present at the funeral: George F. Wegner, John Petri and Louie Heckman, Adair; Mrs. Chas. Harry, Anita; J. F. Mertens, Cresco; Carl Nise and Mrs. Hoopman, Lime Springs; Mrs. Marie Davis and children and Genevieve Harris, Minneapolis; Mrs. Geo. Aulerich, Mrs. Langenbacher and Irene, Mr. and Mrs. Monroe Henkes, Mr. and Mrs. W. Johanningmeier and Christian Nise, Monona; Mrs. S. Pleggenkuhl and Mrs. R. Salzman, Lawler; Mr. and Mrs. George Benz, New Hampton; Mrs. Mary Carlson, Willie Carlson and Mr. Mrs. Vern Proudy, Marquette; Mrs. Kate Smorstad, Chas. and John Mundt, Castalia; also Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Wagner, of Monona.
