John P. McNeil Passed Away. Was One Of Town's First Automobile Dealers.

John P. McNeil, 59, for many years active in the business life of this city, passed away Monday morning at 6:45 o'clock. He had been confined to his home by illness for seven years.

Funeral services will be held this (Thursday) morning at nine o'clock at St. Bridget's Catholic church and interment will be in the cemetery at Clermont, where his mother and brother were buried.

Mr. McNeil was born in a log cabin on the old home farm in Grand Meadow township, the son of Dan and Mary O'Conner McNeill, February 07, 1879. He attended the country schools in that community and later graduated from the Valder Business College at Decorah.

Upon coming to Postville to live, he was in the employ of the late Charles Sonnkalb in the farm machinery business and entered the automobile and garage business in 1912, being a pioneer in this field in Postville. He conducted this business until illness caused him to retire in 1931.

He is survived by his aged father, Dan McNeill, Sr., two brothers, Dan, Jr., and Ed of Postville, and two sisters, Miss Mae NcNeil of this city and Elizabeth Hurley of Elkader, also a half-brother, Dr. James McNeil of Chicago, and a half-sister, Miss Rose McNeil, of this city, in addition to numerous other relatives.
