Mrs. Alonzo Dresser, a resident here until five years ago, passed away at Galesburg, Ill., last Friday and funeral services were held here at the Community Presbyterian church Tuesday afternoon, the Rev. J. Ian Fraser officiating. Interment was made in Postville cemetery, the Eastern Star Chapter conducting the services at the grave.
Previously services had been held on Monday at a funeral home in Galesburg and the funeral party then drove overland to Postville.
Six ladies of the O.E.S. acted as flower bearers at the funeral services here Tuesday, Mrs. Alice Miller, Mrs. Blanche Ervin, Mrs. Lydia Gregg, Mrs. Bert Tuttle, Mrs. Mate Welzel, and Mrs. W. J. Hanks. The pallbearers were Harvey Douglass, Leon Chamberlain, Keith Gray, Fred Luhman, Arthur C. Webster and Harold H. Stone.
Sarah Smith, daughter of John and Sally Thompson Smith, was born at Smithfield, northeast of Postville, on May 19, 1858. She lived with her parents on the home farm till after she had completed her education and then taught school for several years.
She was married to Alonzo Dresser in 1873 and with him took up her residence on their farm at the north edge of Postville, where they lived throughout their married life. To them were born four children, Arthur, Mabel Dresser Bowman and Ama Dresser Sprague, all of whom, together with the father, have previously passed on, and Mrs. Nina McKeon of Galesburg, Ill., with whom Mrs. Dresser has made her home since October 1933.
Mrs. Dresser was a member of the Methodist church until it was disbanded when she united with the Community Presbyterian church as a charter member. She was also a member of the Order of the Easter Star here.
She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. McKeon; three grandchildren, and a sister, Jane Mosher, living in Republic, Kansas, and other relatives and a host of friends.
