-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------.John Warnholz was born January 12, 1842, at Grebes, Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Germany. In the year 1865 he emigrated to America, spending 1 1/2 years in Chicago. Later he went to Guttenberg, Iowa, where he worked at different places for a number of years as a farm hand. March 27, 1874, he was married to Elizabeth Schultz. Twelve children were born to this union, two of whom preceded him in death. He settled down with his family on one of the Larrabee farms and lived there for 24 years. After this he bought a farm near Postville Junction which remained the family home for 27 years, and until his death, which came Monday morning last at a few minutes before eight o'clock, after having been in failing health for two and a half years.
He leaves to mourn his loss his widow and the following children: Mrs. Bertha Plegmann, Strawberry Point; Heinrich Warnholz, Waukon; Mrs. Emma Crendal, Fredericks, Wis.; Carl Warnholz, Postville; Mrs. Fred Harnack, Allamakee county; Mrs. Herman Neuhring, Clayton county; John Warnholz, at home; Mrs. John Schlie, Clayton county; Mrs. Martin Halverson, Clayton county; Freida Warnholz, at home. He also leaves 17 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and a half brother.
All the children were present at the funeral except Mrs. Crendal.
Mr. Warnholz was aged 78 years, four months and 25 days.
The funeral was held from St. Paul's Lutheran church in this city at two o'clock Wednesday afternoon, the Rev. E. Schmidt officiating. Interment in Postville cemetery.
In this connection the family wish to extend their sincere thanks to the many neighbors and friends for their kindly assistance and sympathy during the illness and burial of their beloved husband and father.
