James A. Kibby, whose serious illness has previously been mentioned in this paper, died at 8:30 last Thursday morning, April 17, in St. Francis hospital, Evanston, Ill. As has been their custom the past three years, Mr. and Mrs. Kibby were spending the winter with their children in Chicago. He suffered an attack of intestinal flu about ten weeks ago and received treatment in St. Francis hospital and everything possible was done for his relief, but in vain. The family were gathered at his bedside when he passed away.

The deceased was a life long resident of Allamakee county. He was born in Union City township, April 2, 1865, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Kibby, and was aged 65 years and 15 days. He was united in marriage with Miss Elizabeth Fitzgerald, June 18, 1889, at the Hanover church, Father McCullough officiating. They made their home on the farm in Union City township until 1908, when they took up their residence here and Waukon has since been their home.

To this union were born ten children, six daughters and four sons, one son, Sylvester, dying in infancy. The sorrow stricken wife and the following daughters and sons are left to mourn the loss of a loving husband and indulgent father: Mrs. Arthur Sandbeck of Waukon; Loretta, Hazel, Mae, Marcella, Constance, Albert, Raymond and James, all of Chicago. He is also survived by three brothers, Joseph of Emmetsburg, Iowa; Edward, Tucson, Arizona, and John of Chicago.

Mr. Kibby was a pleasant, genial gentleman, a good neighbor and friend. He was an honest, honorable man and a good citizen. He had a wide acquaintance and all who knew him were his friends. The community, as well as the bereaved wife, daughters and sons, have sustained a great loss by his death and they have the sympathy of all in their affliction.

The remains, accompanied by the family, arrived by train at Postville at an early hour Friday morning and were broght to the home of his daughter, Mrs. Sandbeck, in this city, and many called there to pay their last respects to their old friend. The funeral services took place at St. Patrick's church at 10 a.m. Saturday and were largely attended. Requiem mass was celebrated by the pastor, Rev. Father Stuart, and in his sermon he extended consolation to the sorrow stricken family. Burial took place in Mount Olivet cemetery, a large funeral cortege following the remains to their last resting place.

Some of those from other points in attendance at the funeral were: Joseph Kibby, Emmetsburg, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. James Danaher, Caledonia, Minn.; Mrs. Claude Kisner and three children, Mason City; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Digman, Dubuque and a number of friends from New Albin.
