Dorothy Borcherding

Dorothy I. Borcherding, 93, of Waukon died Sunday, November 13, 2011 at Northgate Care Center in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 17 at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Waukon, with Rev. Lynn Groe officiating. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery, Waukon. Friends may call from 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, November 16 at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.
Dorothy Irene Borcherding was born December 19, 1917 near Millville in Clayton County, the daughter of Herman and Dora (Meyer) Kickbush. She was baptized July 3, 1918 and confirmed July 24, 1938, both in St. John’s Lutheran Church in Guttenberg. She attended rural schools in Clayton County.
January 21, 1942 she was married to Harold Herbert Borcherding at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Dubuque by Rev. Martin Russett. They were married for 64 years. Dorothy and Harold farmed in the McGregor area where she raised chickens and maintained a large vegetable and flower garden. Later she worked at McGregor Electronics and Northern Engraving in Waukon for a number of years. Dorothy enjoyed sewing, cooking, crafts and crocheting.
Survivors include two children, Lyle (Judy) Borcherding of Johnstown, PA, and Lorna (Bernard) Kolsrud of Waukon; four grandchildren, Shann Borcherding, Steve Borcherding, Terry Kolsrud and Stacey Kolsrud; a great-grandson, Steven Borcherding, Jr.; one sister-in-law, Lilith Kickbush of Guttenberg; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; her parents, Herman and Dora Kickbush; three brothers, Ervin, Ernest and Herman; and one sister, Henrietta Moser.
Casketbearers are Terry and Stacey Kolsrud, Steven and Harvey Borcherding, James Harris and Carson Palmer.
