Leonard G. Cooper, 76, of Holmen, WI died Thursday, October 27, 2011 at the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, October 31 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Holmen, WI. Rev. John L. Parr and Rev. Robert A. Schaller officiated. Burial was in the Onalaska City Cemetery.
He was born January 22, 1935 in Harpers Ferry to Delbert and Lucille (Valley) Cooper. He graduated from Aquinas High School and married Shirley Ziegler May 17, 1957 in St. Mary’s Catholic Church, LaCrosse, WI. Leonard had worked at Trane Company in LaCrosse for over 40 years, retiring in 1996. He was active with the Holmen American Legion and the Holmen Knights of Columbus, and was a founding member of the Holmen High School Athletic Booster Club. Leonard loved fishing, watching old movies, and was an avid Packers, Brewers and NASCAR fan.He is survived by his wife, Shirley; three children, Robert (Cathleen) Cooper of La Crosse, WI, Kathleen (Robert) Martin of Holmen, WI and Larry Cooper of Independence, WI; 12 grandchildren, Robert (Nicole) Cooper, Abby Cooper, Jamie Cooper, Callinna Cooper, Casey Cooper, Nicole (Liam) Mosier, Elizabeth (Dana) Gregory, Shawn (Holly) Martin, Heather Martin, Andrew (Samantha) Cooper, Austin Cooper and Alyssa Cooper; three great-grandchildren; an uncle, Maurice Valley; and two nephews, Chris Mallette and Tim Mallette.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Yvonne Mallette; a grandson, Adam Cooper; and several aunts and uncles.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be given in Leonard’s name to the donor’s choice. The Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of Onalaska, WI assisted the family with arrangements.The Waukon Standard, November 2, 2011
