Kay Welper

Kay M. Welper, 51, of Waukon, formerly of New Hampton, died Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Memorial services were held Saturday, October 29 at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon, with Rev. Lynn G. Groe officiating.
Kathleen Marie Welper was born January 29, 1960 in Waukon, the daughter of Donald and Evelyn (McCormick) Welper. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary’s Lycurgus Catholic Church in rural Waukon. Kay graduated from Waukon High School in 1978 and Allen Memorial School of Radiology in Waterloo in 1980.
She worked at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo as an X-Ray Technician. Kay later moved to New Hampton, where she worked at St. Joseph’s Community Hospital as the head of the Radiology Department and also worked in other departments as she was needed. Kay was currently working for HQAA in Waterloo as an accreditation coach.
Kay was a past member of the New Hampton Jaycees, where she was very active and held various positions. She was also a member of the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. Kay loved woodworking, which she would use for her crafts, painting, writing stories of her childhood while growing up on the farm and telling stories about many things. Her favorite times were with her family, especially her nieces and nephews.

Survivors include her parents, Donald and Evelyn Welper of Waukon; a sister, Karen (Daryl) Beneke of New Albin; four brothers, Steve (Becky) Welper of Waukon, Rick (Carol) Welper of Lansing, Bob (Dee) Welper of Jefferson, WI and Ron (Debbie) Welper of Shallowater, TX; five nieces and seven nephews. She was preceded in death by an infant brother, Joseph Welper.
