Darlene W. Grover, 83, died Thursday, November 10, 2011 at the Good Samaritan Home in West Union following an extended illness. Services were held Monday, November 14 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Lansing with the Rev. Laura Gentry officiating. Interment will be at Taylorsville Cemetery at a later date.
Darlene was born December 18, 1927 at Oelwein, the daughter of Fred and Florence Kammerer. She graduated from Arlington High School then attended Gates Business College in Waterloo. Darlene worked in the office of Shield Bantam Cranes, later Koering Cranes in Waverly. She married her first husband, Maurey McDonald of Janesville, and later married Robert Grover.
The Grovers traveled extensively, covering all states in the union, except Alaska. They traveled in Europe, Australia and New Zealand and all the provinces of Canada. They wintered in Arizona for over 20 years, returning to the Midwest each summer. They enjoyed square dancing, mountain hiking, and Darlene was adept at hand-sewn quilting, having quilted many pieces, including twin, regular, queen and king size quilts.She is survived by her husband, Robert, of Lansing; her adopted son, Jeffrey McDonald of Des Moines; three step-children, Claudia Jo Smith of Cedar Rapids, Joan K. Behrle of West Union, and William Andrew “Butch” Grover of Cedar Falls; one sister, Shirley (Tom) Murley of Decorah; and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her first husband, Maurey.
