Dorothy Fiet

Dorothy M. Fiet, 92, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Waukon, died Monday, October 24, 2011 at Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids after a short illness. Funeral services were held Friday, October 28 at Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon with Pastor Samantha Houser officiating. Burial was at Oakland Cemetery, Waukon. Memorial services will be held at Brookview Senior Living at a later date.
Dorothy M. Fiet was born April 18, 1919 in Waukon, the youngest of seven daughters to Adolph and Lena (Nagel) Siekmeier. She attended Jefferson #3 grade school and graduated from Waukon High School. August 17, 1938 she married Delbert C. Fiet, they farmed in Ludlow township all their lives. October 6, 1941 triplets were born at the home of Alan and Esther Buntrock, they were named Barbara, Lorrayne and David. Later, Janice and Marie were added blessings to the family.
Dorothy sold the farm six years ago and moved to Cedar Rapids to be closer to her children and their families.
Dorothy was a lifelong member of Zion United Church of Christ and an associate member of Hope United Church of Christ, Hiawatha. Her faith and love of family were so much of what Dorothy was and believed in. She loved playing cards with friends and family. She wrote many letters and cards to all she knew.
Survivors include her children, Lorrayne Rudish of Marion, David (Gretta) Fiet of Rockford, IL, Janice (Marvin) Smith of Cedar Rapids, and Marie (Larry) Johnston of Oxford; a son-in-law, Neil Shaffer of Townsend, MT; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Delbert; a son, Eugene; a daughter, Barbara Shaffer; and a son-in-law, Frank Rudish.
Honorary casketbearers were Lori Almainana and Michael Johnston. Casketbearers were Ronald Fiet, Tim McEvilly, Richard Gerjets, Joshua Smith, Jeffery Rudish and Brian Rudish.
