Funeral services for Elsa Christofferson were held Monday, October 18, 1999 at 11 a.m. in St. Paul Lutheran Church at Postville, Iowa. The Reverend Robert Hupp officiated. Special music was provided by Joann Martins, organist, and Ronald Meyer, soloist. The Schutte Funeral Home of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.

Elsa Marie (Johansen) Christofferson, the daughter of John Johansen and Karen Johanna (Jorgersen) Johansen, was born March 1, 1906 in Fayette County near Hawkeye, Iowa. She passed away Friday, October 15, 1999 in the hospital at Cresco, Iowa. She had reached the age of 93 years, seven months and 14 days.

She was baptized April 18, 1906 into the Lutheran faith by the Rev. J. G. Rembold at Hawkeye, Iowa and was confirmed March 28, 1928 by the Rev. E. T. Finck in St. Paul Lutheran Church at Postville, Iowa. Elsa graduated from Elkader High School in 1925. She attended the Normal Training for teachers and taught in the rural schools of Clayton county. She continued her education classes at Luther College in Decorah and Upper Iowa University in Fayette.

On October 18, 1929 Elsa was married to Harvey Quentin Christofferson at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. To this union 2 daughters were born. She taught in the Ossian Elementary School for 29 years. One of the most important things in Elsa's life was her love for her family. She enjoyed cooking for them and was especially noted for her apple pies, krumkake, and carmels. She also liked to play cards with friends and family.

Elsa was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville and the Women of the ELCA. She was also a member of the Rebekkah Lodge and the Order of Eastern Star.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Harvey, a grandson who died at birth, a son-in-law Arnold Vokaty, 3 brothers, Carl, Henry and John, and 3 sisters, Eleanor Johansen, Mary Ostlie, and Emma Reinhardt.

Surviving are 2 daughters, Joan (Tennis) Mork, of Postville and Janis Vokaty of Cresco, Iowa; 4 grandchildren, Alan (Sue) Mork of Bettendorf, Iowa, Larry (Barb) Mork of DeWitt, Iowa, Terry (Patty) Mork of Adel, Iowa and Christopher (May) Vokaty of Memphis, Tennessee; great grandchildren, Tess and Erik Mork, Jason, Carrie, Cody and Leah Mork, Erin, Shelby and Abbie Mork, Jennifer Sammon, and Bill (Jennifer) Sammon; a sister-in-law, Sylbert (Louis) Christofferson of Decorah, Iowa.

Casket bearers were grandsons and great grandchildren.
