Alice Haehlen Dies Saturday At Northgate.

Waukon resident, Alice L. Haehlen, 84, died Saturday, Feb. 23 at Northgate Care Center.

Born in Waterville March 20, 1900, she was the daughter of Gabriel and Ida (Bryson) Pedersen. She attended Waukon high school and Chicago Normal college. Mrs. Haehlen was a member of the Waukon library board and St. John's Lutheran church, and was active in various civic groups. In June of 1925 she married Herman Haehlen in Chicago, IL, he died in 1978.

Mrs. Haehlen is survived by a daughter, Mary Lou Gregory, and a son, John Haehlen, both of Chicago; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, and a sister, Ruth McWilliams, of California. She was predeceased by brothers Alfred, Rolf, John and Victor.

Funeral services were held Monday morning, Feb. 25 at 11 a.m. at Martin's funeral chapel. The Rev. Walter Malkewitz officiated and burial was in Oakland cemetery. Pallbearers were Lynn Morrow, Steve Wiedner, John Leschensky, John Hausman, John Shafer and Ralph Bauercamper.

Gabriel and Ida (Bryson) Pedersen's real names are Peder Gabriel and Tilda Ida Elizabeth (Bryson) Pederson. They were always known as "Gabe" and "Ida", and appear as such even in most legal documents.
Alice L. (Pederson) Haehlen was also preceded in death by a brother, Lester Pederson, who died as a child.
