Francis E. Coon 1911-1944

COON, KEENAN, BRADFIELD

Francis Edward Coon, 31, a son of Mrs. Mary Adella Coon and whose widow is Wanda Bradfield Coon, was killed somewhere in Germany on February 19th. Francis was born December 13, 1911 in Lansing, Iowa. On Pearl Harbor day, he was living in LaCrosse, Wisconsin and enlisted in February 1942 in the infantry. He married Miss Wanda Bradfield on April 8, 1943 in LaCrosse, and sailed with his unit for England October 15, 1944.

He is survived by his widow, mother, three brothers, Hyrum; Clarence, who is now in France; and Claude, who was in the African campaign but is now serving in the states; and a daughter, Frances Louise Coon, six months, who with her mother are residing at Manti.

A well-attended funeral service was held in the Manti North ward chapel Tuesday for Francis Coon, husband of the former Wanda Bradfield, and the first of Manti's war dead to be brought home for re-burial.

Pfc. Coon was killed in action, Feb. 19, 1945, at Schmidt, Germany, while serving with the 309th Infantry, and his body was temporarily buried in the Henri Chappelle cemetery in Eupen, Belgium. It was brought to the United States on the US Army Transport, Joseph V. Connoly.

Mr. Coon was born Dec. 13, 1911 at Lansing, Iowa, a son of Clarence and Mary Keenan Coon. He married Mrs. Coon April 8, 1943, at LaCrosse, Wis. Survivors include his widow and small daughtr, Frances Louise, of Manti; his mother and three brothers, Claude, Hiram and Clarence Coon, all of LaCrosse, Wis. .......
