Johanna Christina Bauman, third oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Bauman of this township, was born on Lansing Ridge, April 22nd, 1867, and attended the public schools on the Ridge, proving an apt scholar. She was christened in infancy and was a member of the German Congregation church and Sabbath school. Hers was a strong christian character and she was beloved by all. Of a family of fifteen children hers is the first death. In 1888 she attended Englehorn's Business College at Helena from which she graduated and afterwards became an instructor in the college, also a teacher in the public schools of Helena. She was married to Albert F. Becker in 1895. One child, Alice Frances, aged five years, was born to them.
Following her death at Marshalltown on the 7th inst., the remains were brought here on Saturday, the 9th, and the following day the funeral took place from the German Congregational church on the Ridge, Rev. Kern delivering a most consoling sermon, choosing his text from John 13:7. Interment at the Engelhorn cemetery, and the procession was one of the largest ever seen on the Ridge.
The surviving relatives, husband, little daughter, aged parents and brothers and sisters, have the sincere sympathy of those who knew the true worth of deceased, and it is the wish of these relatives to sincerely thank all who assisted in any manner during the last hours.
