HENRY STEINBACH
Died at the home of Jonathon Barthell, Feb. 6th, 1901. He was born on the 26th day of Dec., 1819, in Elfarshausen, Germany. Nearly fifty years ago he came to this country, residing a few years in the state of Pennsylvania. From there he with his family came to Allamakee county and settled on a farm near Dorchester, where he lived ever since, with the exception of late years when he in part made his home with one of his daughters Mrs. J. Barthell, of Waukon. Mr. S. was a good, pious man, a hard worker in his days, endeavoring to make an honest living and provide a home for his family. He was one of the founders of the M. E. society at Dorchester and remained a faithful member to the last. He was always found in his place if possible. The remains were taken to Dorchester last Sunday where appropriate services were held in the M. E. church conducted by the pastor Rev. Schuldt, of May's Prairie. The procession then followed the remains to the M.E. cemetery on the hill, where he was laid by the side of his wife, who died some years ago. With him another old settler is gone, but his memory will always live. He is survived by five children, Mrs. Thies, of Minneapolis, Minn., Mrs. Bartheld (sic) of Waukon, Misses Lizzie and Anna of Chicago, and his son Louis of Dorchester.
