Iverson, age 66, of Fairbank, Iowa will be held on Thursday, January 26, at the Big Canoe Lutheran Church, rural Decorah, Iowa, with burial in Iowa River Cemetery. Full military honors will be conducted by Helof Holm VFW Post 1977, Bernatz-Symonds American Legion Post 163, DAV Hamre-Giesen Chapter 8, and AMVETS Post 96, all of Decorah. Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel on Kimball, in Waterloo, Iowa is handling the arrangements.
Gary L. Iverson, son of Milton and Ardeth (Simonson) Iverson, was born April 13, 1945 in Waukon, Iowa. He graduated from the Waukon High School in 1963 and was a veteran of the U.S. Army Reserves. He was a telephone technician for more than 30 years for Northwestern Bell, US West, and Qwest, retiring in 2003. He was a member of the Big Canoe Lutheran Church, rural Decorah, Iowa. Gary married Kathy Danielson on August 10, 1968 in Evansdale, Iowa.
Gary L. Iverson died at his home on Friday, January 20, 2012. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathy, who died in August of 1993 and his parents. He is survived by his daughter, Michelle (James) Galantis of Waterloo, Iowa, a son, Jamie (Jill) Iverson of Cedar Falls, Iowa; 3 grandchildren, McKenna Galantis, Kaisa Iverson, and Kinnick Iverson: 3 sisters, Dianne (Robert) Hjellming of Caledonia, Minnesota, Laureen (Don) Henningsgaard of Waukon, Iowa, and Cheryl (Bob) Bjerke of Decorah, Iowa; and 4 brothers, Robert (Cathy)Iverson of Blaine, Minnesota, Steve (Cindy)Iverson and Craig (Janet) Iverson, both of Waukon, Iowa and Jim (Annie) Iverson of Decorah, Iowa.
