GRANDMA BRYSON IS CALLED TO A HOME BEYOND.
Relatives and friends of Mrs. J. S. Bryson were grieved on Friday upon learning that she had passed away at an early hour that morning, Oct. 15, 1926. She had been in failing health for several months past, but her last illness was of short duration. Two weeks ago she had attended church at Waterville and at its close complimented her pastor, Rev. Wareberg, for his good sermon.
Deceased was born April 7, 1844, at Aals Prestegjeld, Hallingdal, Norway. In 1849 when five years of age she came with her parents and three sisters to America. They resided for two years at Rock Prairie, Wis., and came to Paint Creek township in 1851, where she had since made her home. She was truly one of Allamakee county's pioneer mothers.
On Jan. 11, 1865, she was united in marriage with Mr. John Scott Bryson at Decorah, by Rev. Schmidt. To this union eight children were born, two dying in infancy. Those surviving are Mrs. E. G. Bjorneby and Mrs. Louise Martinson of Kalispell, Montana; James L. Bryson of Waukon, and Mrs. Gabriel Pederson of Waterville. A son, John A. Bryson, an engineer on the Great Northern R. R., was accidently killed at Whitefish, Mont., Feb. 3, 1918, and a daughter, Mrs. Ed. Narum passed away at Kalispell, Mont., in June, 1918. She is also survived by a brother, Ole Rema of Elon, a sister, Mrs. Cecil Skinner of Sioux Rapids, Iowa, 19 grand children and 13 great grand children, all of whom will sadly miss this dear motherlyold lady.
Mrs. Bryson was a widow for 21 years and had lived on the home farm in this township for 52 years. About nine years ago she moved to Waterville which had since been her home. Although she would have been gladly welcomed to the homes of her children she preferred to live by herself. She dearly loved company and hardly a day passed that she was not visited by some friend, who enjoyed her congenial companionship, and especially the young folks with whom she was a great favorite. She was well versed in the bible and took delight in explaining its passages to others, and enlightening them as to God's word which had been her life's guidance. Grandma Bryson also enjoyed her garden and chickens and during the past summer she was as faithful as ever in the care of both.
She had been a lifelong member of the Lutheran church and died strengthened by its teachings. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Waterville church, conducted by Rev. Wareberg. A vast number of sorrowing friends attended to pay tribute to the memory of this good woman whom they had known and loved so dearly. The casket was covered with beautiful floral offerings and the church was also decorated with the blossoms she loved so well. The pall bearers were John, Rolfe, and Alfred Pederson, Edwin Narum, Herman Haehlen and Glenn Hagen. Interment was in the West Paint Creek cemetery beside her husband who passed away 21 years ago.
In memory of the deceased the West Paint Creek Ladies Aid and the Waterville Ladies Aid each donated a beautiful memorial wreath to the Home mission; and her children donated a beautiful wreath to the bible mission school at St. Paul.
