Mabel Schultz, 97, of Waukon, died Wednesday, June 18, 2003, at her home in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 27 at 2:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Waukon, with Rev. Larry Olson officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Waukon. Friends may greet the family immediately following the services at the church. Martin Funeral Home in Waukon is assisting with arrangements. Mabel Aura-Eloise Pierpont was born March 29, 1906, in Minatare, Neb., the daughter of Orlando G. and Laurinda B. (Stout) Pierpont. After growing up and graduating as valedictorian from Minatare High School, she attended Chadron Normal School to become a teacher. Mabel taught Spanish and Latin at Atkinson (Neb.) High School.On June 29, 1929, she married Gerald E. Schultz in Atkinson. They moved to Gregory, S.D., for a time and to Waukon in 1941, where Gerry was the manager for Interstate Power Company.Mabel had been a long-time member of First Presbyterian Church in Waukon and active in its Women's Group. She had been a long-standing member of the Eastern Star, Browning Club, and P.E.O., having been a member of Chapters BU and EK. Survivors include two sons, Jack Schultz of Los Angeles, Calif., and William Richard "Dick" (Anne) Schultz of Palo Alto, Calif.; two grandchildren, Joanne Lynch of Belmont, Calif., and Neal Schultz of Austin, Texas; and a sister-in-law, Marjorie Johnston of McCook, Neb.She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her brother, Charles.Casketbearers are Roger Martin, John Schultz, Kenneth Peake, Howard Van Ruler, and Carl Christianson. Honorary casketbearers are Donna Mahr, Bill and Sheila Clair, Chester Thiele, Jim Bristol, Olive Grinna, Beverly Schultz, Freda Roggen, Diana Deeney, Karla Miller, Tina Morillo, Donna Snitker, Barbara Meier, Hildegarde Hangartner, and Laurie Koester.Memorials may be directed to First Presbyterian Church in Waukon.
