She was the daughter of Herman and Clara (Olson) Hanson. When she was still an infant, the family returned to the rural Harpers Ferry area. On February 16, 1938, she married Rudolph John Dehli at the Old East Paint Creek Lutheran Church parsonage. They farmed together in Lafayette Township for many years. Emma tended to most of the homemaking duties as well as helping with many aspects of the farming operation. She was an excellent cook and seamstress. She also did handiwork, embroidery and crafts, raised a large vegetable and flower garden, and took great care to make her home welcoming to friends and family. She liked to visit with her friends on the phone and enjoyed traveling to many places throughout the country. She was an active member of the East Paint Creek Synod Lutheran Church and its Ladies Aid. Her passion was her family and she was happiest when she was doing things for and spending time with them.
