Esther L. Wood, age 81, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday morning, June 1, 2003, at Saint Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, after a brief illness. Memorial services were held Wednesday, June 4 at St. Mark's United Methodist Church, Cedar Rapids, by Rev. Carroll Brown. Private burial services were held at Czech National Cemetery, also in Cedar Rapids. Papich-Kuba Funeral Service assisted the family with arrangements. Esther was born July 31, 1921, in Waterville and came to Cedar Rapids from Waukon prior to World War II. She married Leonard J. Kriz on June 24, 1950, in Cedar Rapids. He passed away June 1, 1955. On January 7, 1963, Esther married Almer "Woody" Wood in Cedar Rapids. He passed away January 26, 1985. Esther was a member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church. She enjoyed knitting and flower gardening.
Survivors include a daughter, Linda (Pat) Courtney of Cedar Rapids; a son, Robert (Marilyn) Kriz of Solon; four grandchildren; one brother, Olaf (Doris) Johnson of Waukon; and one sister, Ruth (Raymond) DeLarm of Atkins. She was preceded in death by her two husbands; a son, Larry J. Kriz; her parents, Carl and Emma (Erickson) Johnson; and a brother, Clarence Johnson. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Heart Association or St. Mark's United Methodist Church.
