Funeral services for Rudolph "Rudy" Otto Hartwig, age 86, were held Wednesday, July 6, 1994 in St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, Iowa. The Rev. R. Michael Brown officiated. Casket bearers were members of the Walter T. Enneberg American Legion Post No. 358. The Schutte Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the St. Ansgar Cemetery with military rites by the American Legion Post No. 358.

Rudolph Otto Hartwig, son of Julius and Ella (Hollatz) Hartwig, was born on January 28, 1908 in Worth County, near Grafton, Iowa. He died on Sunday, July 3, 1994 in the Good Samaritan Center at Postville, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith. Rudy attended the country schools in the St. Ansgar area. In 1914 he moved with his family to a farm near Otranto, Iowa. Rudy played basketball with the Otranto High School team during his high school years. He graduated from the Otranto Public Schools in 1927. He worked as a day laborer for area farmers. In the early 1930's he went to Garnavillo where he was employed at a service station. Rudy served as a military policeman in the United States Army during World War II. He was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church and the American Legion. In 1940, Rudy purchased the Skelly Station from Henry Schuette. During his years in business, he became affiliated with Texaco. In 1973 he retired and received a watch for 30 years of service with Texaco. Rudy was extremely interested in both local and national sports.He traveled all over the United States and visited Alaska four times.

Rudolph Otto Hartwig died on Sunday, July 3, 1994 in the Good Samaritan Center in Postville, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Raymond and Willmer Hartwig.

Rudy is survived by his sister, Vera Bartz of St. Ansgar, Iowa.
