Funeral services for Joyce Eleanor Beatrice Olson, age 86, of waukon, Iowa were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 22 at St. John's Lutheran Church with the Rev. Lynn Groe officiating. Burial was in Braham, Minnesota with Martin Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Honorary bearers were her four grandchildren Lori Olson, Brett Olson, Jeff Olsen, and Erik Olsen.

Joyce Eleanor Beatrice, daughter of Walter and Josephine (Monson) Ostrom, was born November 14, 1910 in Colfax, North Dakota. Joyce graduated from Braham High School and received a registered nurse degree from Swedish Hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota. After graduation she was a public health nurse in St. Paul and northern Minnesota until 1937. On May 15, 1937 she married Rudy Olson at Braham Evangelical Lutheran (Augustana Synod) Church. After her marriage she worked many years as a public health nurse and as a school nurse in Bemidji, Minnesota from 1938-1945. Joyce and Rudy had lived in Willmar, Bemidji, Montevideo, and Minneapolis, Minnesota and Sparta, Wisconsin. In 1970 they retired to Mesa, Arizona where they lived for 20 years before moving to Bemidji again. They later moved to Waukon, Iowa. Since 1992, she was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Waukon. Joyce was involved as director of a Lutheran Church camp in Paynesville, Minnesota for several summers as well as other church activities.

Joyce Eleanor Beatrice Olson died Friday, April 18, 1997 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, and five brothers, Curtis Ostrom, Kenneth Ostrom, Marvin Ostrom, Maurice Ostrom, and Vincent Ostrom.

Joyce is survived by her husband, Rudy; a daughter, Alyce (Rodney) Olsen of Minneapolis, Minnesota and one son, Dr. Kenneth (Sharon) Olson of Waukon, Iowa; 4 grandchildren; a sister, Fern Hedenstrom of Minneapolis, Minnesota; 2 sisters-in-law, Barbara Ostrom of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Loretta Gotfredson of Braham in addition to nieces and nephews.
