Amos Nagel of Postville, 65, farmer, was killed Friday when he was dragged into a saw being used to cut railroad ties. A son tried to save him but was knocked down by a slat which had caught in his father's clothes, pulling the man into the saw.
~Elgin Echo, August 28, 1930
Friends and neighbors were shocked Friday when they learned that Amos Nagel of route 2, Luana, had been instantly killed about 10 o'clock while sawing railroad ties on a farm north of Postville. In some way a slab became tangled in the belt of the machinery, throwing him into the machine. The funeral occurred Sunday afternoon with burial in the cemetery at Smithfield. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, several children and numerous other relatives.
~Postville Herald, August 28, 1930
