Mary Onsager
Mary (O誰eill) Onsager of Waukon, age 97, passed away Thursday, August 4, 2011 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Services were held Monday, August 8 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon with Rev. Joseph Schneider officiating. Burial was at West Ridge Cemetery. Hanson Funeral Home of Waukon assisted the family with arrangements.
Mary (O誰eill) Onsager was born December 31, 1913 in rural Allamakee County, the daughter of John P. and Ellen (Drew) O誰eill. She married Peter Onsager May 4, 1937 in Manchester. After high school and college, she worked as a teacher until her retirement in 1975. She became a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church after the closing of West Ridge Church.
She is survived by her children, Carol Kelly of Woodland Hills, CA, Rita (John) Hartogensis of San Diego, CA, Julie (Don) Kobriger of Waterloo and Steve (Dianna Kalish) of Waukon; her daughter-in-law, Cathy Onsager; her sister-in-law, Alice Tyke; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ellen (Nellie) O誰eill; her husband, Peter Onsager; a son, David Onsager; her brothers, Harold, Leo and Gerald O誰eill; and her sisters, Veronica O誰eill, Monica O誰eill and Regina Liddiard.
Casketbearers were Tom, Doug and Brent Kobriger, Scott Onsager, Brady Onsager and Dan Meyer.The Waukon Standard, August 10, 2011
