Funeral services for Walter R. Larson, age 86, of Waukon, Iowa will be held Wednesday, October 12 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waukon with Rev. Lynn Groe officiating. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery in Waukon. Martin Funeral Home in Waukon is assisting the family with the arrangements. Honorary casketbearers will be LeRoy and Marcella McCabe, Ed and Chris Lauerman, Dick and Jeanne Roggensack, John and Lorna Kerndt, Ron and Nancy Brandt, Bob and Agnes Anderson, Robert J. Stock, and Darlene Larson. Casketbearers will be Ryan Larson, Jennifer Larson, Chelsea Larson, Drew Aspenson, Brett Aspenson, Kate Blessum, Drake Blessum, and Miles Blessum.

Walter R. Larson, son of Arthur and Genette (Ask) Larson, was born on January 14, 1925 in Decorah, Iowa. He attended the rural area elementary schools and graduated from Waukon High School. He lived in Minneapolis, Minnesota for a time where he did engineering work for a factory. On October 25, 1952 he married Myrt Zoll at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon, Iowa. They lived in Chicago, Illinois for several years before returning to Waukon where they owned and operated the Model Cafe for 25 years. Later Walter worked as the manager and grounds superintendent at the Waukon Golf and Country Club. Throughout his working career he spent time improving and maintaining several rental properties. Myrt died January 29, 1989. On August 3, 1991 Walter married Gloria Lee Aspenson at First Lutheran Church in Cresco, Iowa. They lived in Waukon in a home which Walter built for them.
Walter was a member of the Waukon Golf and Country Club and St. John's Lutheran Church. He enjoyed golfing, dancing, gardening, and fishing. He also loved to travel. He enjoyed being with people and many of his favorite times were spent with his family and friends.

Walter R. Larson died Friday, October 7, 2011 at Providence Place in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Myrt, 3 sisters, Minnie Larson, Frances Campbell, and Lorraine Reniger, and 2 brothers, Arnold Larson and Leslie Larson.

Walter is survived by his wife Gloria of Waukon, Iowa; his 5 children, Robert J. (Sharon) Larson of Florence, Alabama, Pam (Larry Moore) Larson of Harpers Ferry, Iowa, Craig A. Larson of Howell, Michigan, and Peg (Kirk Roggensack) Larson, and Jody Larson of Minneapolis, Minnesota; his step-children, Donald (Marcia) Aspenson, Jr. of Jenks, Oklahoma, Sue Gould of Houston, Texas, Diane (Coit) DeBose of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Gary (Marlene) Aspenson of Cresco, Iowa, Jim (Mary) Aspenson of Wichita, Kansas, Julie Aspenson of Cresco, Iowa, Mark (Tami) Aspenson of Waterloo, Iowa, and Janet (Zane) Blessum of Waukon, Iowa; 18 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; a brother Norval (Pat) Larson of Lansing, Michigan and a sister, Virginia Rumbaugh of Chicago, Illinois.
