Funeral services for Harold Christofferson were held in the Community Presbyterian Church, Postville, Monday, February 15, at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Dick Harberts officiating. He died at Community Memorial Hospital Friday, February 12, after a few hours hospitalization.
Harold Christofferson, son of Reuben and Lena Koenig Christofferson, was born March 19, 1910 in Bloomfield Township, Winneshiek County, where he spent his childhood and grew up receiving his elementary education in a rural school. Following his graduation from Postville high school he went to work in Cedar Rapids.
He was united in marriage to Gladys Munger June 14, 1935 in the Elgin Methodist Church. To this union one daughter, Ann, was born.
Mr. Christofferson returned to Postville and worked in the Louis Koevenig Hardware, Postville Lumber Co., Louis Hill Hardware and began his tenure at the Allamakee-Clayton Electric Cooperative March 1, 1948. He served in many capacities before becoming power-use advisor and editor of the R.E.C. bulletin. He was in military service from February 14, 1944 to 1945 in the Engineers.
He became a member of the Community Presbyterian Church July 7, 1942 and served the church three years as a deacon, six years as an elder and as trustee for three years. He was a member of Arthur F. Brandt American Legion Post No. 518 and held many offices. He was also a member of the Postville Kiwanis club and active in civic and community activities.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Surviving are his wife Gladys; one daughter, Mrs. Harlan (Ann) Stee, Jr., of Cedar Rapids; one brother Otis from Drakesville, Iowa. There are two grandchildren, Kristin and Gregory.
Interment was in the Postville Cemetery.
