Funeral services for Norma Jean Brainard, age 88, formerly of rural Luana, Iowa were held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, September 19, 2011 at Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Postville, Iowa with Rev. Dave L. Lenth officiating. Burial was in the Smithfield Cemetery near Volney, Iowa in Allamakee County.

Norma Jean, daughter of Herman and Veda (White) Sieg, was born March 9, 1923 on a farm in Allamakee County, Iowa. She attended the Cherry Valley Schoolhouse which was one and 7/10 miles from her home. Norma was united in marriage to Clarence Monroe Brainard on May 31, 1940 in Davenport, Iowa. They were blessed with six children. Norma spent her married life with her beloved husband on their farm in Allamakee County. Clarence died on May 30, 1985. For the past five years Norma has been a resident of Thornton Manor in Lansing, Iowa.

Norma Jean Brainard died on Friday, September 16, 2011 at Thornton Manor in Lansing, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, Clarence, three grandchildren, Jennifer, Bryce, and Sarah, two brothers, Gordon Krumm Sieg and Bernard Sieg, and two sisters, Vivian Brainard, and Verna Schroeder.

Norma is survived by 6 children, Clarence (Kathryn) Brainard of Monona, Iowa, Joyce Limkemann of Coggan, Iowa, Roger (Ruth) Brainard of Wauzeka, Wisconsin, Marvin (Patricia) Brainard of Monona, Iowa, Jerry (Luann) Brainard of Red Wing, Minnesota, and Gary Brainard of Luana, Iowa; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
