Contributor: Connie Ellis(BRAY FAMILY RESEARCHER)Funeral services for Marlys Kleppe, age 78, of Fayette, Iowa, formerly of West Union, and Postville, Iowa, was held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 17, at the First Lutheran Church in Ossian, Iowa. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Marlys, daughter of Richard and Julana (Bray) McNally, was born November 5, 1932 in Decorah, Iowa. She was baptized on March 22, 1954 and confirmed on April 18, 1954 at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Postville, Iowa. Marlys attended Priler School in Clayton County where she finished her 8th grade education. On September 16, 1956 Marlys married Donald Kleppe. They had four children born to this marriage. She enjoyed playing cards, embroidering, and playing keyboard. Marlys loved to watch old movies, eat popcorn, and drink A&W Root Beer. However, her greatest enjoyments were her grandchildren and animals.
Marlys Kleppe died Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Donald, a son Wayne Kleppe, and 4 siblings, Gloria Duvel, Fronzie Jones, Milton McNally who died in infancy, and Dorothy McNally, who also died infancy; and a half-brother Richard McNally.
Marlys is survived by a daughter, Sheri King of McGregor, Iowa, and 2 sons, Lee (Ella) Kleppe of Ossian, Iowa, and Mark (Angie) Kleppe of El Paso, Texas; 14 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters, Marlene Adams of Decorah, Iowa, Beulah Fadness of Postville, Iowa, Flora Brink of Postville, Iowa, and one brother, John "Jack" McNally of Waukon, Iowa; and 2 half-sisters, Rosalyn Krambeer of Postville, Iowa and Margaret Sebastian of Dubuque, Iowa.
