Funeral services for Harlan Simon Frank Sebastian, age 85, were held Monday, February 2 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, Iowa. The Rev. T. M. Marks conducted the 11 a.m. services, assisted by the Rev. Dennis Neizwaag of St. John Lutheran Church in Charles City, Iowa. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery with arrangements by Schutte Funeral Service. Casket bearers were Tennis Mork, Wayne Schroeder, Harlan Standorf, Robert Heckmann, Randy Lenth, and Ralph Auer. Honorary bearers were Emil Schultz, Jr., Dr. Robert Schneider, William Livingood, Merle Lange, and Dr. W. H. Armentrout.

Harlan Simon Frank Sebastian, son of Frank D. and Lydia (Nolte) Sebastian, was born August 28, 1912 in Post Township, Allamakee County, Iowa He attended Woodland rural school and Postville High School. On September 23, 1936 he married Bernice Moen at the Little Brown Church, Nashua, Iowa. They lived on the home farm until 1956. In
1953 they built the Zephyr Drive-In, which they operated for several years. Bernice died on June 17, 1974. On January 11, 1975 Harlan married Frances (Boggess) Linn Canny at St. John's Lutheran Church in Charles City, Iowa. They lived in Postville for many years before moving to Charles City, Iowa. Harlan was a rural mail carrier and sold insurance. In later years he repaired screens and sold doors and windows. Harlan was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, Brotherly Love Lodge of Postville, and El Kahir Temple of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was a member of the Northeast Iowa Shriner's Clown Unit and made balloon animals to give to children.

Harlan Simon Frank Sebastian died Wednesday, January 28, 1998 at Chautauqua Guest Home, Charles City, Iowa. In addition to his first wife, Bernice, Harlan was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Robert Sebastian, a sister, Florence Hall, and a step-great-child.

Harlan is survived by his wife Frances of Charles City, Iowa; a son Randy Sebastian of Postville, Iowa; 2 grandsons; a great-grandchild; one step-daughter, Doris (Dean) Toebe, and 1 step-son, William (Darlene) Linn, all of Charles City, Iowa; 7 step-grandchildren and 5 step-great grandchildren.
