Funeral services for Gerald "Jerry" Wayne Baxter, age 73, of Waukon, Iowa were held October 4 at St. Paul's Methodist Church with Rev. Steve Campbell officiating. Graveside military rites were conducted in the Monona City Cemetery in Monona, Iowa. Casketbearers were Randy Baxter, Kenneth Baxter, Nadine King, Wayne King, Charley Tuley, and Curtis Nuehring.

Gerald Wayne Baxter, son of Carlos and Vernis (Heinke) Baxter, was born September 8, 1926 in Atlantic, Iowa. He was baptized at Lewis Methodist Church in Lewis, Iowa, and graduated from Atlantic High School in 1944. On June 1, 1947 he married Gretta Canoe at the Methodist parsonage in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Jerry was a member of the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1955. He served one year in the Korean War. He and Gretta lived in the Cedar Rapids and Marion, Iowa area for several years. Gerald worked for Walnut Grove as a feed salesman in the Northeast Iowa, retiring in 1988. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion and St. Paul's United Methodist Church.

Gerald Wayne Baxter died Friday, October 1, 1999 at Northgate Care Center in Waukon, Iowa following a lengthy illness. Gerald is preceded in death by his parents and a brother Richard Baxter.

He is survived by his wife, Gretta; 2 daughters, Carla (Scott) Lyons of Nashville, Tennessee and Twila (Major Douglas) Johnson of Tupelo, Mississippi; 4 grandchildren; 2 sisters, Betty (Albert) Neidhart of Saugus, California, and Beverly (Angelo) Mele of Virginia Beach, Virginia and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Baxter of Atlantic, Iowa.
