Funeral services for Donald J. Heffern, age 70, formerly of Waukon, Iowa, were held October 1 at St. Matthews Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, Iowa with Rev. David Ambrosy officiating. Burial was in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Waukon, Iowa.

Donald J., twin son of John C. and Anna (Kelly) Heffern, was born June 28, 1929 near Harpers Ferry, Iowa. His twin sister was Donna Heffern. He served with the US Army during the Korean War. On February 27, 1954 he married Joan Fahey in Waukon, Iowa. Donald was a foreman for the Iowa-Illinois Gas and Electric Company in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was a member of the St. Matthews Catholic Church.

Donald J. Heffern died September 28, 1999 at Manor Care following an extended illness. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Donald is survived by his wife, Joan; a son Michael (Alison) Heffern of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; 3 daughters, Debbie (David) Ernst, and Denise (Lee) Votroubek, both of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Kelly (Matthew) Peters of McLean, Virginia; 7 grandchildren; his twin sister, Donna Curtin of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and 2 brothers, Cletus Heffern of Mason City, Iowa and Robert "Bob" Heffern of Harpers Ferry, Iowa
