Kelly, age 77, of rural Harpers Ferry, Iowa were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Februaryy 8 at St. Pius Catholic Church at Cherry Mound with Father Robert Levenhagen officiating. Burial was in the Cherry Mound Church Cemetery with Hanson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were Frank Kelly, Bill Kelly, Chris Kelly, Chad Opfer, Jack Livingston, Jack Heffern, Brian Rodenberg, and Robert Wiemerslage.
Clara, daughter of Frank W. and Etta May (Cowell) Klees, was born June 2, 1921 in Volney, Iowa in Allamakee County, Iowa. She attended Volney elementary school and graduated from Waukon High School in 1938. Clara taught at Bear Hollow School for one year. Clara and John Kelly were married on August 7, 1940 at St. Pius Cherry Mound Catholic Church, rural Harpers Ferry, Iowa. She was a member of the St. Pius church, the Rosary Society. Also she taught CCD classes at St. Pius.
Clara L. Kelly died Thursday, February 4, 1999 at Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John who died January 20, 1977, her son Roger Kelly, a granddaughter, and two brothers, Raymond Klees and Paul Klees.
Clara is survived by her 2 daughters, Joan (Don) Ewing of Lansing, Iowa and Mary (Daniel "Danny") Kruse of Harpers Ferry, Iowa, a daughter-in-law, Linda Kelly of McGregor, Iowa; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marie (Everett) McKee of Postville, Iowa.
