Funeral services for Janice A. Jenkins, age 66, of Mankato, Minnesota, formerly of Dorchester, Iowa were held Tuesday, April 1 at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon, Iowa with Rev. Steve Campbell officiating. Burial was in the Dorchester Methodist Cemetery. Martin Funeral Home in Waukon assisted the family with arrangements. Casket bearers were Scott Jenkins, Russ Tesmer, Kyle Hedquist, Paul Howes, Richard Howes, and George Howes.

Janice Ann, daughter of Francis and Violet (Shefelbine) Howes, was born July 2, 1936 in Waukon, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Methodist Church in Dorchester, Iowa and graduated from Waukon High School in 1954. She attended Methodist Kahler School of Nursing in Rochester for three years, becoming a registered nurse in 1957. In September of 1958 she married Gerald E. Jenkins in Rochester, Minnesota. Janice was an RN in Rochester for 37 years, first at St. Mary's Hospital and Mayo Clinic, and later as an Industrial Nurse for IBM where she served as head of that department. Since 1999, she has lived in Mankato at Hillcrest Healthcare Center.

Janice was active in the Democratic Party of Minnesota and the League of Women Voters. She also volunteered her time with March of Dimes, United Way, Planned Parenthood, and was a member of the Minnesota Nurses Association. She was an avid reader, enjoyed playing the piano, and liked watching movies. Her grandchildren were a special joy to her.

Janice A. Jenkins died Saturday, March 29, 2003 at Hillcrest Healthcare Center in Mankato, Minnesota following a lengthy illness. She was preceded in death by her father Francis Howes and a brother Gary Howes.

She is survived by her mother, Violet Howes of Waukon, Iowa; 3 daughters, Shana (Russ) Tesmer of Mankato, Minnesota, Lisa Davidson of Rochester, Minnesota, and Terri Pike, also of Rochester, Minnesota, and her son, Scott Jenkins of Chicago, Illinois; 10 grandchildren; 3 brothers, Paul (Kathy) Howes of Dorchester, Iowa, Richard (Lisa) Howes of West Des Moines, Iowa, and George (Jan) Howes of Kansas City, Kansas; and Gerald E. Jenkins of Rochester, Minnesota.
