Funeral services for Julia A. Heckman, age 84, of Decorah, Iowa were held at First Lutheran church in Decorah with Pastors Glenn Kappelman and Milo E. Lee officiating. Burial was in the Lutheran Cemetery with Fjelstul Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were Gary Bakken, Robert Kerr, Dennis M. Jones, Robert D. Peterson, Richard Kerr, and Randy Woldum.

Julia A. Heckman was the daughter of Martin and Bertha (Olson) Hanson. She was born November 14, 1905 in Waukon, Iowa. She was baptized at Old East Paint Creek Lutheran Church in Waterville, Iowa and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waukon, Iowa. After graduating from Waukon High School, she attended Upper Iowa University. She taught school in the Frankville, Iowa and Burr Oak, Iowa areas before her marriage to Arthur Heckman on June 7, 1934 in Mason City, Iowa. She was a member of First Lutheran Church and its Altar Guild. After retiring she and her husband did some furniture refinishing.

Julia died Thursday, May 10, 1990 at the Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital in Decorah, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Arthur, who died March 14, 1982; 5 brothers, Albert Hanson, Herman Hanson, Olaf Hanson, Arthur Hanson, and Melvin Hanson; and 2 sisters, Emma Jones and Clara Kerr.

Julia is survived by her brother Alfred Hanson and a sister, Mabel Hanson, both of Waukon, Iowa, and several nieces and nephews.
