Funeral services for Ida Augusta Olson, age 99, of Harpers Ferry, Iowa were held at Old East Paint Creek Lutheran Church, rural Waterville, Iowa on January 29 with the Rev. Gary Bachman conducting the 1 p.m. services. Burial was in the church cemetery with Martin Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were Herb Dehli, Arlen Bjerke, Jerome Melbostad, David Olson, Robert Olson, and Tom Whiteaker. Honorary pallbearers were Gilman Tollefsrud, Lyle Larson, Rudolph Dehli, Jack Melcher, Joe Sandvold, Alvin Hanson, Leonard Johnson, and Odell Lee.

Ida Augusta, daughter of George/Joergen and Anna (Wilhelmson) Melbostad, was born May 22, 1890 in Highland Township, Winneshiek County, Iowa. She attended rural school in Winneshiek County. She was a governess and seamstress before her marriage on June 17, 1911 to Henry O. Olson at Waterloo Ridge Lutheran Church. Henry died February 13, 1971. Ida lived most of her adult life in LaFayette Township, Allamakee County, Iowa. She was a member of OEPC and its Priscilla Circle. She had held various offices in women's organizations at the church.

Ida Olson died Thursday, January 25, 1990 at the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon, Iowa. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, a son Orville Olson, who died February 14, 1986, a brother Clarence Melbostad, and 2 sisters, Minnie Lee and Josie Larson.

Ida is survived by her 3 sons, Alton Olson, Helmer Olson, and Lloyd Olson, all of Harpers Ferry, Iowa, a daughter, Amy Ferris of Burlington, Iowa, a daughter-in-law, Delores Olson of Ossian, Iowa; 6 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and a great-great grandchild.
