Funeral services for Esther Clara Svebakken will be held Tuesday, January 23 at 1:30 p.m. at Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church with the Rev. Gary Bachman officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Martin Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers will be seven grandsons, Peter Svebakken, Hans Svebakken, Scott Svebakken, Steve Svebakken, Jim Lambert, Joe Lambert, and Mike Pierce.

Esther Clara, daughter of George J. and Anna Marie (Neumann) Colsch, was born June 16, 1920 in New Albin, Iowa. She attended New Albin Elementary School and Waukon High School. On November 14, 1938 she married Roy Svebakken at the First Presbyterian Church. They farmed in the Paint Creek area before moving to Decorah, Iowa in 1958. She was a cook and housekeeper at Luther College for almost 25 years. She was amember of Old West Paint Creek Church and its Dorcas Circle.

Esther died Saturday, January 20, 1990 at her home in Decorah, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter Sharon Svebakken in 1960, a brother Elmer Colsch, and a sister Laura Colsch.

She is survived by her husband, Roy; 2 sons, Gene Svebakken of Oak Park, Illinois and Richard Svebakken of Davenport, Iowa; 2 daughters, Linda Lambert of Decorah, Iowa and Marlene (Lee) Pierce of Eagan, Minnesota; 10 grandchildren; 2 brothers, Lawrence Colsch of Ferryville, Wisconsin and Charles Colsch of Canyon Lake, California; and 3 sisters, Margaret Pratt of Hemet, California, Mabel Haller of West Union, Iowa, and Marie (Merle) Lubka of Postville, Iowa.
