Leo Whalen

Leo J. Whalen, 79, of New Albin passed away Monday, June 13, 2011 in New Albin. Mass of Christian Burial was held Thursday, June 16 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in New Albin, with Rev. Daniel Knipper officiating the service. Interment will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, New Albin.
Leo was born in New Albin February 29, 1932 to Peter and Frances (Waters) Whalen. He graduated from New Albin High School and joined the U.S. Air Force. He attended school and worked in the LaCrosse, WI area a few years before operating the family farm.
Leo married Caroline Servais December 27, 1960 in Middle Ridge, WI. She preceded him in death in May of 1990. Leo enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, dancing, baseball and telling stories. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and V.F.W. Post #5603.
He is survived by five children, Jean (Wayne), Don (Dede), Joan (Jeff), Dave and Paul (Gail); 12 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two brothers, Ray (Edna) and Dale (Virginia); one sister, Mary (Tom) Bechtel; several nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Caroline; his parents, Peter and Frances Whalen; one sister, Rita Imhoff; and two brothers, Earl and Merlin (infant).
