Funeral services for Helen Pauline Drebenstedt, age 78, of Waverly, Iowa were held Friday, May 17 at 9 p.m. at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly and at 2 p.m. at the Schutte Funeral Home in Postville, Iowa with Pastor Mark N. Gravdal officiating. Burial was in the Postville, Iowa cemetery.

Helen Pauline, daughter of Elzer and Amanda (Wirkler) Schierholz, was born November 13, 1912 on a farm in Clayton County, Iowa, near Luana, Iowa. She was baptized at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Postville and later confirmed in the same church. As a very young girl she moved with her family to Luana where she attended school and was graduated from the Luana High School in 1930. On May 27, 1936 she married Gustav Drebenstedt in the Lutheran Church parsonage in Rock Island, Illinois. The couple made their home in Castalia, Iowa where Gus worked for the Carnation Company. In 1967 Gus was transferred to Waverly, Iowa where they have lived since.

Helen had been in ill health for sometime, entering Allen Memorial Hospital on May 6, 1991 where she had surgery. She died following a heart attack after surgery on Tuesday evening, May 14, 1991 at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa. She was preceding in death by her parents, 1 sister, Malinda Reinhardt and one niece, Marna Jane Reinhardt.

She is survived by her husband, Gus, who resides in Waverly, Iowa; 2 brothers, Milton Schierholz of Postville, Iowa and Irving Schierholz of Monona, Iowa; and by many nieces and nephews.
