Funeral services for Emmett Joseph McCormick, age 75, of rural Harpers Ferry, Iowa were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 13 at St. Pius Cherry Mound Church, rural Harpers Ferry, Iowa with Father Robert Levenhagen officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery with arrangements by Martin Funeral Home. Casket Bearers were Steve Welper, Rick Welper, Joe McCormick, Kevin McCormick, Jim McCormick, and David McCormick.

Emmett Joseph McCormick, son of James and Helen (Kelly) McCormick, was born on their farm in Fairview Township, Allamakee County, Iowa. Emmett attended Fairview #5 School, Harpers Ferry High School for three years and graduated from the Waterville High School in 1940. On January 8, 1945 he married Dorothy Duball at St. Mary's Catholic Church in McGregor, Iowa. They farmed the family farm. He had been a director for Allamakee County Farm Bureau, a board member of Northeast Iowa Sales Commission, and the Waterville and Waukon creameries. Emmett had served on the Allamakee Zoning Commission, was a Fairview Township trustee and a life-long member of St. Pius Cherry Mound Catholic Church where he was on the parish council.

Emmett died Wednesday, February 10, 1999 at his home in rural Harpers Ferry, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two infant brothers, James McCormick and John McCormick.

Emmett is survived by his wife, Dorothy; 2 sons, Don (Sharyn) McCormick and Tom (Beth) McCormick, and a daughter, Judy (Rick) Jones, all of Harpers Ferry, Iowa; 7 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Eugene (Patricia) McCormick of Des Moines, Iowa, and Charles (Lela) McCormick of Dubuque, Iowa; and a sister, Evelyn (Don) Welper of Lansing, Iowa.
