A memorial service for Vivian Brainard, age 79, was held December 18 in the Forest Mills United Methodist Church of rural Postville, Iowa. The service was conducted by the Rev. Steve Campbell. Burial was in the Smithfield Cemetery, rural Monona, Iowa. Schutte Funeral Home of Postville, Iowa handled all arrangements.

Vivian Cleora, daughter of Herman and Vida (White) Sieg, was born May 20, 1920 in Franklin Township, Allamakee County, Iowa, near Postville, Iowa. She received her education in the Cherry Valley and Forest Mills Schools. On March 29, 1941 she was married to Forest Wilson Brainard in Elkader, Iowa. For a short time, the couple lived in the Dubuque, and Waterloo, Iowa areas. They returned to Allamakee County and farmed for many years. They became residents of the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon, Iowa in 1989. Vivian was a member of the Forest Mills Methodist church and its women's organization.

Vivian passed away December 9, 1999 at the Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon, Iowa. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Forest, who died September 15, 1991, a brother Bernard Sieg, a half-brother Gordon Krumm, and a sister, Verna (Emmett) Schroeder.

She is survived by a sister, Norma Jean Brainard of Luana, Iowa; sisters-in-law Alice Brainard, Irene Brainard, Anita Brainard, and Margaret Brainard, brothers-in-law, Adelbert (Nell) Brainard, Vincent Bowers, and many nieces and nephews.
